Tip of the Week: Warm It Up!

As we head into Fall, the weather changes become more and more noticeable. The sun takes a bit longer to light up and warm up the day, and evening falls sooner. Chilly mornings lead to warm afternoons, followed by chilly evenings. The plants have understood the assignment! Many summer flowers have begun to die off or go dormant. Their blooms have dried and turned brown. Summer vegetable plants have reached the end of their life cycles as well. These plants need the warmest days of summer to continue producing, so at this time of year, gardeners often replace them with cool-loving plants.

As we transition into fall, connect with Nature and follow its patterns. When the air gets cool, keep your body warm. Conserve your Qi! Instead of using your resources to keep yourself warm, follow these tips!

  • Wear warm clothing and keep your skin covered on cool and windy days.
  • Keep your feet and head warm! (Socks and hats are a must on chilly days.)
  • As the weather transitions, the temperature sometimes resembles Summer. Remember, the essence of Fall is still cool. Dress for the season!
  • Infuse warmth into your meals.
    • Enjoy warm barley cereal or baked pears and almonds for breakfast.
    • Saute your veggies or make soups that you can enjoy all week long.
    • Trade the colder drinks for ginger tea and honey.
    • Add spices like cinnamon, turmeric, and ginger to your meals.
