Set Yourself Free

How Nature Lets Go

Nature continually lets go of what no longer serves it. One season shifts into another with the energy of the previous season still there to support it. Trees drop their leaves in Fall so their branches can properly hold Winter’s snow and ice. As snow recedes, flowers begin to bloom. Throughout Spring and Summer, blooms open, dry out and die, and new blooms take their place, giving pollinators the best chance to create new life.

This is the circle of life, and it all stems from the ability to let go and release.

Shedding What We Don’t Need

Almost all animals shed their outer layer, be it fur, skin, feathers, or exoskeleton—even humans. This is Nature’s way of helping animals heal, grow, and protect themselves from parasites or predators. Of all animals that shed, the snake is likely the most notable. As snakes grow, their skin stretches and a new layer forms underneath. As the old skin is no longer needed, the snake slithers out of the skin that no longer fits and simply leaves it behind. It lets go of the old and welcomes in the new. The snake doesn’t look back or wish that it had kept its old skin. It leaves the old in the past and moves forward.

2025 is the Year of the Snake. In the Chinese zodiac, the Snake is a symbol of flexibility, transformation, and the ability to start anew. Picture a snake slithering out of its old skin and continuing on without looking back. That is your symbol for this year.

Leave the Past in the Past

Your challenge this year is to move past what no longer serves you and leave it in the past. What are you ready to release?

  • An unhealthy relationship?
  • A toxic work environment?
  • Your stubborn ways?
  • Long-held fears and worries?
  • Resentment and anger?
  • Patterns that hold you back?

Put some thought into the things you’ve outgrown, and just like the Snake, slither out of their grasp and set yourself free.
