CHINESE BAKED TOFU

 1 package (12 ounces) of extra firm tofu
 1/2 cup of soy sauce
 1/4 cup of hoisin sauce
 2 Tablespoons of Shao Shing wine (Chinese rice wine) or sherry
 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
 1 teaspoon of honey
 1/2 teaspoon of five-spice powder (optional)
 2 to 3 cloves of garlic, finely diced
 Oil to coat the baking dish
 2 to 3 scallions, sliced into thin strips

Drain the tofu and slice it into eight equal pieces.

In a small bowl, combine all remaining ingredients, except the oil and scallions, and stir well.

Place the tofu in a lightly oiled, shallow baking dish, and pour the sauce over the tofu.

Allow the tofu to marinate for 30 minutes to two hours.

Heat the oven to 350 degrees and bake the tofu for one hour, until brown, turning the pieces and spooning the sauce over the tofu during the cooking process.

Serve your barbecued tofu hot! This recipe makes about two servings.
