Ellen’s contributions to the TCM World Foundation began in 1998 when she became the founding vice president. Her work helped bring the profound teachings of Grand Master Nan Lu to a broader audience, making TCM accessible in practical ways. Ellen’s ability to convey complex concepts with clarity and compassion amplified the Foundation’s impact, allowing many to experience the transformative power of TCM and Qigong.

Ellen Schaplowsky’s Early Accomplishments
Before her work with TCMWF, Ellen was already making an impact through her innovative work at Ruder Finn, a global communications firm. As a dedicated professional, Ellen founded the Global Rainforest Alliance Program, which focused on raising awareness of environmental issues, particularly the preservation of rainforests. This initiative demonstrated her deep commitment to global challenges and highlighted her ability to develop impactful, meaningful programs. Her environmental marketing expertise and passion for creating change were early indications of her visionary nature—traits she later channeled into her work with TCM.
Ellen’s professional experience, combined with her personal journey into TCM, allowed her to make a powerful impact. In the early 1990s, she sought treatment for unexplained physical symptoms and was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition. Her search for answers led her to Dr. Nan Lu, and she soon became his patient and student, immersing herself in the principles of TCM and Wu Ming Qigong. It was through this transformative journey that Ellen found her true calling.

Ellen’s leadership at the Traditional Chinese Medicine World Foundation led to the creation of numerous educational programs and initiatives, including:
- The Building Bridges of Integration Conference: This conference integrated TCM, Taoist internal martial arts, and modern health practices, fostering a deeper understanding and collaboration across medical traditions.
- Breast Cancer Prevention Project: A resource informing women with holistic strategies for breast health. It emphasizes preventive care, stress reduction, Qigong and integrative approaches to improve wellness and quality of life.
- Educational Resources: Ellen developed a wide range of free resources to teach TCM self-care practices and Taoist healing to individuals and communities worldwide. including the first newspaper on TCM.
- TCM: A Natural Path to Healing. This weekly radio show offered insights and practical guidance on using TCM for self-healing and achieving a balanced, healthy life. Their collaboration emphasized the integration of ancient wisdom with modern wellness challenges
